20/30

Drakeinthestraw

John and I took Drake for a long walk today and I brought the camera...this picture was the last one of the day- he's chasing his ball and I got a lucky shot of his cute little face busting through the straw. I just love him so much. I got a few pictures of him in action chasing his ball- they are hysterical- the look on his face is a mixture of fixation and insanity. He rolled in the straw, he rolled in the dirt, he rolled on the pavement walkway. He splashed around in the water, and flung drool all over himself. He has been passed out on the floor pretty much since 5:30. A tired dog is a happy dog.

So, today is 20/30- 10 more days left- it makes the time seem to go both slow and fast at the same time. Slow- because day after day I post these pictures and it's glaringly obvious that my life is pretty dull and uneventful- and fast in that before I know it, it's the end of each day and time to post.

The dull and uneventful part is very true. It's not a complaint, it's just how it is. We don't do much, we don't go out a lot, and if we do, it tends to just be the two of us. I like it, I don't mind that I am kind of a hermit, I feel cozy in my house and I do have lots to do each day, so that makes for a happy existence. It would be great to have a ton of money, a nice big house, 5 kids, a boat and vacations 3x a year with friends- but it's okay that that isn't our life. Our life is simple and intimate and quiet, and good. Not perfect, not by a long shot, just good.

And I was thinking about how that relates to scrapbooking and why I struggle with it sometimes. I don't have a life with events and interesting pictures to scrap...but I love the act of scrapbooking. I get so excited when I take good pictures of friends and their kids or places we go, because that is my "event." Does that make sense? I guess this really doesn't have much to do with anything, just some things I had on my mind today:)

I hear ya! I love scrapping too but asides from my wedding pics that aren't finished and our annual vacations I never seem to have anything to scrap. I love hanging out with my friends and their kids so that I have something to *document*. I often hear colleagues talking about the things they get up to with their kids and think - you should scrap that for the future - but they don't even get a camera out! It's weired - people with lives and events only have photos of school - birthday parties - and vacations. And yet here we are full of scrapping ideas and no events to capture! *lol*

I know what you mean - sometimes i'm sure my friends think... oh no, she's got her camera out again... no doubt my picture will appear in some layout or other before you know it! But, you know what? Relatively uneventful lives can be happy lives!

There is nothing better than scrapping the everyday. We have a "boring" life too, but I wouldn't change it for the world. It wouldn't be us!!!

That was very heartfelt and real, and sounds for all the world like a great scrapbook page to me! In fact, all 30 of your 30/30 posts would make an awesome compilation of the "everyday" in book form. :)

i love your photos - everyone of them is scrappable! this blog post sounds like a good idea for a scrapbook page too. but i know what you mean, scrapping so much it can be hard to come up with new topics. even with a 3-year-old daughter!

Hey girl. ;)

I know exactly how you feel. I actually LOVE being a hermit. I love spending time with my hubby and the boy. It's fun, it's what I do. I just wish I had more TIME to scrap. :( Stupid school.

Anyway, I have a little suh-in' suh-in' for ya, so shoot me your addy when you get a sec. ;)

Yeah, I work at home, I sleep in until 10 every day and sometimes I feel guilty for being here all the time and not wanting to "go out" and spend money when we can drink beer and eat food that we already have. Our lives are very uneventful, but I think I like it that way. I would much rather live simple than live big...go to the $2.50 theater on free popcorn night than spend $9.50 for one movie ticket downtown. I think living life slow and simple makes us happier in the end.

I was almost 30 before I figured out that being a "hermit" was what really made me happy, that by trying to conform to society's ideal of being social all of the time was stressing me out. I would much rather spend an afternoon scrapbooking or knitting! I think that any of your pictures are "scrap worthy," and I love your layouts!

I was explaining to my husband the other day why I've felt so drawn to your blog and the way you scrapbook. I feel EXACTLY the same way you do about not having kids, just the pet (a kid in of themselves!), and the hubby... and even the hermit-ness of not having a lot going on. My hubby works 12 hour shifts on random days of the entire week (all 7 days), so it makes it hard to get involved with a regular event or group. Anyways, I completely understand where you are coming from, sympathize but also take heart in your viewpoint, because now I know I'm not alone. :) Does that make sense? Just keep on being you. :)

I LOVE the picture of your dog. We lost our beloved Black Lab last summer and when I saw the photo it took my breath away for a minute. Beautiful animal and great pic :)

i feel the exact same way.

I think you are my polar opposite....KWIM?
Peaceful, loving fotos------> 7 crazy(beautiful) kids and a longing for just a little calgon!
Keep rockin' it girl! :)

I can relate... 'going out' takes effort. I'd actually rather just stay home. Nothing really exciting going on while friends left and right have babies. But it's okay to just 'be' if life is good and you are happy. =)

I love your blog, but I've never posted before. This time, I had to though! Our lives are "boring" too...and quiet and cozy...and perfect for us. We even have 2 kids, and we're still boring! We hang out together at home, go to our boys' lacrosse games, sometimes hit our favorite local eateries, and go "junking" A LOT. In a nutshell, that is us...and it's perfect and makes us happy. I love scrapping the everyday stuff...that's real. It sounds like you have a lovely, happy life...definitely scrap-worthy.

I can relate to your lack of "events". NOt having kids, but having a cat and dog, I find that most of my pics are pet related. I love scrapbooking, but do not have the vaction, baby, school ... pics to do it with.
I love how you take pics of Drake, and everyday things, and make meaningful pages of what everyday life is- it is still grat even if it is not filled with special events.
Dawn

hey....i can totally relate! my husband and i live with our 2 cats and have a pretty uneventful life as well. i always thought something was wrong with us and we should be out doing so much more. but i love being at home and doing nothing with him. it makes me so happy. thanks for making me feel like i'm not alone. i love your blog.

I so totally get what you mean about getting excited with an awesome shot!! It's like Wow...and you have to show someone right away..look at this!! I'll bet you're like me too when I go junking (which I just did last week with my creative pal, Keri). Look at this...and only $1.50!!! It's the little things that excite us, right :)

oh, cuz, you nailed it right on the head honey. That is the same reason most of my pics are taken of Jack! We so seldom have big 'events' in our life as well. People often say Im photo-crazy over Jackson...no, truth be told, I just dont have anything else to take pictures of! HA. Love you.

I've been lurking here for a while and I love seeing your daily pics. I think it's great you take the time to take a pic everyday, I wish I took more time to do that. btw I'm in love with your dog ;)

Great pic. I did a pic a day in Feb and noticed that I so easily could have had every pic be of my dog, cat or husband. I thought the same thing that it was kind of boring doing that, but I completely agree with you, I like it this way too!

always love comin' by for a great pic & a heartfelt post.
i just love your blog
xo

My life sounds a lot like yours. No kiddos here either---just a fabulous husband and a very spoiled dog. But hey--we better enjoy these years, as they may be the quiet before the storm! ;)
Enjoying your pics---especially those of Drake.
