An Update

Eric is doing better today. The day started slow, but his energy level is increasing with the passing of time. His neurological functioning has improved a great deal, which is a relief. I did have a phone conversation with his nurse this afternoon. Eric's doctors reviewed Eric's CT scan and no significant changes were seen, though inflammation was a concern. When the brain experiences inflammation, neurological dysfunction is very common. It would account for his recent loss of short term memory, his difficulty processing information, and his slow response times. He started a steroid regimen last night. It's to help decrease inflammation within the brain. I have noticed a recognizable difference in Eric this evening. He's been spending time on the computer, socializing with friends and family, and is actually eating dinner. I'm thrilled. He even managed to give me a hard time about the way I place dishes in the sink and how I failed to put the mats back under the litter boxes. Never have I been so happy to hear him complain. Smile.

We are looking into a new chemo treatment/trial that's being hosted by the Mayo Clinic. Eric's mom had been researching trials these last few weeks. She got in contact with a coordinator today over at Mayo. She was told that Eric may be a good candidate for one of the trials (out of several-options are very limited because Eric's regrowth is inoperable). We're looking into it. Tomorrow, his records go out and we'll get an answer as to whether or not he qualifies for the trial. We'll find out in a few days. If he qualifies, he'll receive the experimental treatment at one of the local hospitals. We won't have to drive out to Mayo to participate in the trial. This is a huge plus for Eric. It also means insurance coverage...we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Thank you everyone for your continuing support. I love reading all your comments. You give me something to look forward to as we continue along this difficult journey. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Here's wishing Eric gets the best treatment he can for what he is going through. I have 'watched' others go through cancer battles- and the story is similar in each case. A series of ups and downs, progress and setbacks- fears and hopes. You know I am proud of the way you seem to both be taking this as it comes...and cherishing the good times; fighting through the tough ones. I'm here. Wishing I could do more. But praying you through and caring as much as I can. Take care.
Here's to loving 'complaints'. SO sweet. SO true. Love them...cause you can. =)

Blessings to all of you. I so wish this trial is just what you and many others have been praying for. Enjoy every precious moment. You are so strong, and I wish there was something I could do for you. Keep us informed, and lean on those near you. It helps so much. Take care of yourself as much as you can for Eric, that precious baby, and above all, for yourself. Thinking of you all so often...

you continue to amaze me! thinking of you all. HUGE hugs, rachel

So glad to hear that Eric is doing better today! My prayers are with you all!

You amaze me with your strength. Hope Eric gets into the trial.
Hugs, June

YES! I'm glad things are coming around for you darlin. Keep your head up! We're thinking of you! Eric and Ethan is so very lucky to have you!!

Chrissy,

My mom told me about your site a couple months ago. You are an amazingly talented scrapbook artist. I enjoy visiting your site, looking at your work, and reading your blog. You are truly gifted. I wish you the best of luck for a successful future in this field.

I feel for you and Eric. It seems unfair that you two have to deal with these types of challenges so soon in life. Keep fighting and maintain hope. Doctors can overcome seemingly unsummitable feats. Have faith. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

With love,

Lisa and Joe

I'm glad that Eric is doing better today, and I pray that he is able to get into this trial. You are an amazing woman, you are doing such a great job of taking care of everyone, but remember to take care of yourself too. Sending hugs your way.

Wonderful to hear that Eric is feeling better. I hope he gets approved for the new treatment.
Prayers to you and your Family.

praying that mayo will be a good fit. i have a strong faith in their treatments. we were in rochester for 5 years while my dh was getting his Ph.D. there. i developed heart failure the last year. it was a blessing to be at there. i pray it will be a blessing in your lives as well.
